Courage and Compassion Women that Inspire: Patti Bauernfeind hosted by Monica Ottosson

WHEN: Monday, January 25, 2016

7:00 PM to 8:00 PM

WHERE: Rinconada Library

1213 Newell Road, Palo Alto, CA 94303

Welcome to a conversation with Patti Bauernfeind, a dedicated marathon swimmer that just completed the challenging 21 mile English Channel swim from England to France in September.

Patti has completed many other marathon swims and currently holds the record for crossing Lake Tahoe and Lake Zurich. She is one of 3 swimmers who have completed the 25 mile Monterey Bay swim (all 3 are women), swam around Manhattan island and she has also participated in several relay swims to the Farallon Islands.

For all her marathon swims, she follows the tradition of ‘English Channel rules', which require that she swims with only a cap, goggles and a swim suit.

All her marathon swims are dedicated to raising funds for a local non-profit organization, Trust in Education, which provides education and health services to women and children in Afghanistan. You can have a look at Patti's website here.

Patti's love for water and passion for swimming have been with her all her life and she will talk about what inspires her, how she keeps her focus and what motivates her to brave cold water and marine creatures for so many hours.

Between swimming and working full-time, Patti also dedicates her free time to tutoring Afghan refugee kids.

Patti is the first guest in my speaker series: Courage and Compassion – Women that Inspire.

We will serve tea and buns while you can listen to a woman that surely will leave you inspired!
